Hey nice post Kris. This post makes me see why I am where I am. I mean its fear that actually stops us from being who we are. Well its so true and in a way am glad I wasn't one to get lost because of that. In life I have made quiet a few mistakes because I lacked courage, and was constantly in fear..

Fear that I will lose,
Fear that I might make a fool of myself,
Fear that I might let down the people I love,

But I guess I was lucky since I realised what was happening. I wasn't living life the way I wanted to but the way I thought people wanted me to. Am glad I was so wrong. Cause if it weren't for the risks I had taken I as I said would not be where I am doing what I love.

I am an engineer by degree but a designer by passion and that's what I love to do.

Bottom line being, fear is what restrains us from leading our life's. It is with courage that we see who we really are and find solace in what we do :).

I love how you described all those physical sensations... What makes me feel brave is taking a moment to direct my attention beyond the physical - realizing that my silly reptilian brain causes me more suffering than most external forces I come in contact with.

Maintaining a passion for my goal while cultivating a certain amount of detachment from the outcome makes me feel fearless. Cliche but true, "there's nothing to fear but fear itself".

Great post Kris. Very thought provoking. I love how you added music vids at the end (especially Eminem). Think I need to borrow that idea for future posts :)

I've been at my most daring, irrational (and probably dumbest) when in love with a woman :)

So, to be brave, just practice mad love :)

Other observations I've had:

I've noticed that fear appears when I concentrate on the results I want to achieve instead on the actual experience. Focusing too specifically on my goal can lead to an endless train of worries what can go wrong and thoughts whether you're doing the right thing or not. If I let the end result become an obsession this can completely rob me of living in the present moment.

The human spirit wants to experience, create and enjoy the now; it isn't truly interested in project deadlines, sales results and customer satisfaction surveys :)

Fear is relative. Once you've had a really big fear, all the small ones snap into perspective. This painful fact seems to hold true for problems and emotions of all kinds.

This is likely the main principle behind Toastmasters and musical recitals.

Ask, "What's the worst that could happen?" Making fear specific tends to defuse it a bit.
